Assistant Directors Guild Of Great Britain

Aims & Ambitions

PRIORITIES

The short term goal of the ADG must be to become established and recognised as the definitive body which represents the very best drama Assistant Directors in the country. We also need a large membership to give us a stronger voice. This will take some years to put together.

We also feel that the term ‘Assistant Director’ has been consistently devalued and far too loosely applied. It takes years of dedicated work to become a good AD.

We believe the whole point of an organisation like the Guild is to be discerning. To re-establish, restore and recognise the value of an Assistant Directors work as a highly skilled specialised craft. This is our overriding ambition that informs all other goals.

By using a thorough application process to really make guild membership mean something. We hope to create an authentic seal of quality upholding high standards of care in the Assistant Directors art and becoming the benchmark for production companies who want to look for an experienced AD who has actually earnt his or her stripes.

The existence of the Guild will hopefully help employers to understand what a huge difference a first class AD team actually contributes to a drama production.

GOALS

We have laid down these further goals to strive towards.

1) We want to improve members employment opportunities across all available incoming and domestic feature film and television drama production through the maintenance, development and promotion of the Guild Members database. We are actively promoting the guild as the main resource and benchmark of quality when an employer is putting together an experienced and energetic AD team.

2) Encourage, develop and sustain recognition of members as being best practice practitioners. We want to raise the visibility and value of our members by offering employers the the very best quality available in the Assistant Directors art.

3) Work with employers to establish stable and respectable rates of pay and conditions for our members to reflect the huge contribution experienced Assistant Directors bring to a production.

4) We want to provide a forum of mutual participation and communication between Assistant directors so they can voice their views and discuss topical issues that affect the industry, through members seminars and on-line media.
